Training coming along nicely

13 February 2012

Still stuck on the 160 lb mark – it feels like I am further away from the goal of 154 lbs. I have not been sticking to the diet rigidly so that may have something to do with it. I was shopping in Trader Joe’s today and I badly wanted to grab a wedge of brie. As it turned out, I didn’t and stuck to just buying vegetables and meat.

This morning I had another CTS session. Last week I did base miles for three of the mornings. It seemed to have made a difference as the CTS session this morning felt less difficult. I am not going to put it was easier as none of them are easy but I had no need to change to an easier gear for the third and fourth intervals. I stayed in the same gears for all four intervals. That’s an improvement! Normally after a CTS session I am peckish all day but today I have resisted the urge and have stuck to the diet other than the carb loading around the time of exercising.

I shall be doing another CTS session in the morning. This will be the big test to see if I have the energy levels for two in a row. I was doing it at the height of my training last year and if I can do it this early into the year, it would be awesome.

A quick ten miles

23 February 2011

It wasn’t really a quick one but it felt quicker than the last indoor ride I did. The ride on Monday finished once I hit the 30 minute mark, the ride today finished once I hit the 10 mile mark. They both converged on the 16 mph zone. On Monday I started off on the rollers as I was taking some photos for an article on examiner.com. So my average speed was low and I did ten minutes on the rollers before I got too sweaty and then it became too dangerous for me to wipe the sweat off without falling. I did fall once. When I got on the trainer, I had to work hard go get my average up to 16 mph. That was my aim on Monday. Today’s aim was ten miles keeping above 16 mph. It was 16.5 at one stage but it gradually came down. I had to pick it up at the end there to make sure it didn’t go all the way below.

I was watching one of the Carmichael training videos for climbing. I am determined that my times are going to be good this year – better than last year. I don’t want to come close to running out of time like I did for the 300km. I was mainly watching the extras that comes with the DVD not the actual training part of it. The training session lasts 64 minutes and you have to calculate your maximum power effort and heart rates before doing it. I’ll do that tomorrow. Perhaps. Today, I just wanted to see how the training is. I really liked watching it on the sofa after a shower and eating soup and seeing all the ahtletes being put through their paces. It seems like it is going to be fun.

Tomorrow I have a delivery. Tomorrow I will have something that is an investment for life. It will help prepare me for PBP and then beyond. Winter training is going to be so nice. That is what the brochure says. We shall see once the indoor bike arrives. There will be pics!!

Hightstown 400k review

14 June 2010

This has been some time doing.  The ride was longer than anything I have done before and it challenged me a lot, both physically and mentally.  I learned that my bike set up needs improving and I learned that I have a long way to go before I am ready for the PBP 2011.  However, I do have a long time before that ride and there is ample time in which to get everything ready. Training Schedule for 2010

18 January 2010

I have posted what I think is going to be my training schedule for 2010 – see Pages link on the right. I may change it, depending upon how it seems to be going.
